Once upon a time, not so long ago, I was still in ninth grade.
At that time, there was a girl and a boy whom I thought were correct up to that point.
Their names are Laura and Luigi. Our whole story begins with an appointment. The two had arranged to meet for the new film “A Man in Jurassic”. When I learned this, my imagination took over. I had wondered myself how I came up with all of this in retrospect. Well, we had a charity run (I couldn't participate), thank God, otherwise it would have started much earlier. When I came back to school the next day, I found out from a classmate what Laura's mother had said to Luigi, namely:
“Are you the boy Laura wants to go to the movies with?” When Katly heard that, it all started.
Katly was a girl I knew from school and from the bus.
When I realized this, I had a movie playing in my head for the first time in my life, and it was never rated R!
In any case, I had put myself in the mother's shoes, who thought her daughter had a date with Luigi and that the two would start kissing during a completely unromantic scene. From there on, I had a free ticket for an endless movie playing in my head.
All this happened only because I knew and liked them both.
Well, in any case, the movie started playing in my head. We had imagined it more and more and it got worse and worse.
The movie started.
The movie started with Laura and Luigi going to the movies. Not like everyone else our age, no, they went to an evening showing. As the last teenagers to watch a movie. It started out normally, the two went to the movie theater, bought tickets and then went into the auditorium. But halfway through the movie, everything changed. The two of them started kissing wildly. It should be noted that “A Man in Jurassic” was not a love story.
They kept smooching and walking backwards out of the hall. All the way to the popcorn stand.
That's when it got bad for the audience for the first time.
They started taking off their clothes on the counter of the stand. But then, luckily, my movie theater went on break. School had started, and the only annoying thing about that was that Luigi was now sitting in the class next to me. But even in class, the last scene kept coming up and going away, even though I tried everything to stop it. When school finally ended, I took out my headphones and had to turn the music up pretty loud to get myself together and think clearly again. I didn't want to hear anyone at that moment, really no one. But Katly caught up with me very quickly and shortly after that, Lotta was next to me on her bike. That was the end of it for me again. Unfortunately, Laura had to go home when we got to our bus stop. As soon as she was gone, I took a deep breath. Katly then talked to me about the two of them “dating”. When two secondary school students walked by and shouted “We were there too!”, Katly got some crazy ideas and my mind went on.
I had refused the popcorn inside because I had seen what had happened there. In my head, I now saw the two students from before. They were standing there laughing at Laura and Luigi, who had fresh popcorn all over them. I was so glad I hadn't wanted any. But I was already feeling sick, because you could see Luigi licking the popcorn off Laura's body. I had to be careful not to throw up on the bus we were now on.
Even when I listened to music, this scene kept running through my head. The more often it played, the more closely I examined the details. These girls filmed the whole thing until the moment they threw up. There were a lot of other people standing around watching but not intervening. Why isn't anyone intervening? I wondered. And why are these stupid women filming the whole thing? The world had become a terrible place with all its inventions. In a matter of seconds, even the smallest mistake could end up on the internet, where almost half the world could see it.
This time I noticed a man in a police shirt. He seemed young and athletic. He didn't look too bad either, with his black hair that was slightly gelled up. He looked at me, but didn't intervene either. At least I could now concentrate on him and didn't have to watch the spectacle around Laura and Luigi so closely anymore.
When I finally got home, my movie finally stopped.
Today was Wednesday, which meant we finally had biology. Two hours that were not canceled.
Biology was my favorite subject since I was at this school. The only bad thing was that Laura was sitting next to me and we had as a topic what she and Luigi had been doing in my movie. A good time to get into our main characters.
Laura was small and not exactly slim, which was supposedly due to her size. The sport she did was called riding her bike to school, otherwise she was a “gamer”. Sometimes she would accompany her friend Lotta to the riding stable, but that wasn't very often either. Lotta was also in my class, but I didn't really like her, especially since I had an allergy to horse hair and Lotta kept saying she was the greatest and most beautiful.
Well, now we come to Luigi. He was actually a normal 9th grader. Actually, because he hated soccer and the movie series “Planet Wars”. He was 1.80 tall and could run very fast and jump high. He loved dinosaurs and knew everything about them. He was the only one in my class who didn't have a cell phone.
The biology lessons were not helpful at all.
It was about pregnancy and so my head cinema made its very own jump cut.
On a black background now stood “8 weeks later”
Now you could see Lotta and Laura, who set out together to go to the riding stables. But somehow the whole two hours didn't happen more than that. It would probably continue in a moment when I had time off.
I had just left the school grounds and turned on my music when Katly came up to me from behind. I told her what had happened so far, but I only found out later that this had been a huge mistake.
Because as soon as we were at the bus, Katly had new ideas, which also ran directly in my head figuratively. So my head cinema went on.
Laura and Lotta had finally made it to the riding stable. As the two had just locked their bicycles, Laura suddenly vomited. “What's wrong?” Lotta asked in horror. “I was fine just now, I've had it more often in the last two weeks,” was Laura's reply. “Have you ever told your mother?” Lotta asked her. “No,” Laura replied immediately. “She'll just get nervous.” she added. ‘Do we want to see a doctor?’ Lotta asked. ‘I'll go alone,’ Laura said again immediately. The movie jumped again. Laura was now sitting in a treatment room. She sat there alone and looked around the room. It was sterile, like most rooms in such practices. On the wall were pictures of exotic animals and on the desk stood a small African wooden figure. The door opened again and the doctor came in. “Do you know what's wrong with me now?” Laura asked nervously. The doctor nodded. “My suspicions, which I had after your blood test, have been confirmed thanks to the urine sample.” Laura turned pale as chalk, because her doctor was not only a normal GP, but also a specialist in tropical diseases. Please don't ask why she turned so pale, I can't even imagine what was going through her mind.
“How long do I have?” Laura asked nervously.
The doctor laughed.
“You don't have an illness, you're pregnant.”
From there, the movie paused again, because I was finally at home and had other things to do there.
But the next morning, the nice break was over again. This was when Katly sat down next to me on the bus again. “Do you have any idea how this can happen...” The doctor couldn't finish, because Laura jumped up crying and ran out. Outside, she ran into our chemistry teacher. “Laura, what's wrong?” our teacher asked her, but Laura was already gone.
The movie takes a break because we were in the schoolyard and Mike was supervising. Mike was our English and biology teacher, and my parents were friends with him. Mike was a 2.20 m tall man, his wife was as tall as me and he had two children aged 5 and 4. If I had any questions, I could ask him and he would find an answer. “You Mike,” I said, walking towards the stairs. “What is it, Bella?” he asked as I sat down on the railing. “How do you get rid of your mental images?” I asked. ‘If you're interested in losing your long-term memory, try alcohol or a car accident,’ he said. ‘Not really,’ I grumbled. ‘So you'll have to deal with it,’ Mike sighed.
But then Laura arrived.
Today I even felt like using my imagination, because the only positive thing was the conversation with Mike. The movie had taken a leap and Laura was now at school telling Lotta what the doctor had found. Personally, I felt a little sick about it, which is why I went to the secretary's office to lie down on the couch. But even there it didn't get any better. “Do you have any idea how this happened?” Lotta asked Laura. The next moment, Laura was seen running into the office, crying. “Yes, I have some idea how that happened,” I thought to myself. At that same moment, Mike pulled me out of my reverie. “Aren't we feeling well?” he asked me. “I don't know about you, but no, I'm not feeling so great,” I said. “Can you maybe tell me what's wrong with Laura?” he asked me. But before I could say “no” or anything else, Laura came in, sobbing. My movie took a break for the day and I went back to class. Mike must have talked to Laura and then came for English class.
As soon as I got home in the afternoon, Laura messaged me. Did I have time to play? Dude, I was eighteen, I didn't go to someone's house to play anymore. Besides, I didn't feel like taking the bus for half an hour just to not know how I would get back. My mom wasn't going to pick me up. But she was exactly my salvation. “Mike is coming over for dinner with the kids,” she called from the kitchen. “Cool,” I called back and texted Laura that I was very sorry but I didn't have time and had to babysit. She then wrote that she could help me with that, which I knew, but I countered with the argument that the father of the children didn't want to.
When Laura had read the message, she wrote:
“Too bad. Lotta doesn't have time either.” That was her message, but I hadn't read it until that night. Because shortly after my mom had said that Mike was coming to visit, the doorbell had already rung. It was Mike with his wife and children. After we had eaten together, Mom and Mike asked me if I would like to play outside with the children. Whenever they asked me that, they were discussing something that they didn't want me to hear about directly. In retrospect, I didn't want to know this time either. But you always learn from your mistakes.
I had once ordered a dictaphone on the internet, and I chose this one this time and hid it so that no one could see it, but the device recorded everything. So I went outside with the two kids. We played tag, drew on the driveway with chalk, played soccer and swung on the swings. When we came back inside, it was already seven o'clock in the evening and Mike and his wife said goodbye. When my mother was in the kitchen to do the dishes, I snuck into the living room and got my dictation machine out of its hiding place. But somehow I didn't want to listen to what they had discussed right away, I don't know. It could be because I didn't feel like a movie in my head again or because I was afraid that it had been a completely useless conversation between parents. I tend to lean heavily towards the latter because Mike had come out to play along and he only did that when it was unnecessary talk.
But I took it to school with me the next morning, because I didn't want my mother to find it and get into trouble again. But I made another mistake, because I was holding the stupid thing in my hand and as soon as Katly sat down next to me, she asked what I had there. “A dictaphone,” I replied with a sigh. “And why do you have it with you, do you want to listen to Laura?” she asked. ‘No, Mike was with us yesterday and discussed something with my mother, I wasn't allowed to be there and then I listened to the whole thing without further ado.’ I explained. ‘And what did they discuss?’ Katly asked eagerly. “I have no idea, I haven't listened to it yet and I only took it with me so that my mother can't find it.” ‘Then let's listen to it,’ Katly said. Sighing, I plugged my headphones from my cell phone into the device. Katly took one of the headphones and listened to the whole thing. First of all, they made sure that I was gone, very friendly. Then Mike spoke. “I'll be going on paternity leave at the end of this month because Katrin is pregnant.” That was actually enough information and Katly was about to turn off the tape, but I knew that couldn't be all. Of course, the tape continued and I kept listening. Katrin, Mike's wife, then said: “We were wondering if Isabella should be the godmother of our third child.” “Right, because she's already been busy with the other two...” I heard Mike before I stopped it. I felt sick to my stomach, but I was also kind of happy and it was actually a cool thing.
No sooner had I left the bus than I remembered that Mike had told me last night that he wanted to talk to me.
I knew that he would tell me exactly that again without knowing that I already knew and actually I didn't want to hear that again from anyone.
At the school grounds, Mike was already waiting for me as usual at the stairs to the entrance. I went to him. “Good morning, can we talk then or do you have something more important to discuss with Laura?” he asked. ‘No, no, I just wanted to go to the bathroom.’ I heard Laura say behind me and then she walked past me and went in. Mike went in with me too. We looked for a room where there was no class in the first hour. As soon as we were in the room, Mike started telling the same story that I had already heard on the tape. Ironically, he had to stop at the same point where Katly and I had also stopped the tape. Someone unlocked the door from the outside. “Hide,” Mike whispered. I did that immediately. 'They could clean the floor here again sometime,' I thought to myself. I shouldn't be too happy about the person who had just come in. It was Mike's substitute, who was being shown around by our vice-principal. “Ah, here they are. We've been looking for you everywhere,” said my vice-principal. “This will be your substitute,” he added. I had a small gap in the desk through which I could see the front. I looked at the guy and knew immediately that Mike and I were thinking the same thing. “Aren't you going to introduce yourself?” asked our vice principal. “Yes,” replied the guy. He wasn't very tall, wore a white shirt and light blue jeans. He had very short black hair and glasses with a wide amber-colored frame.
“But first I want to know if we're alone,“ the dwarf said. My breath stopped briefly and I had to swallow.
“Of course we're alone, I'm just preparing my lesson,” Mike saved us both. You could rely on this man.
“Very good, because I don't want all of my students to see my whole life,” the guy said, and I immediately found him unsympathetic. “My name is Ralph Cheindrichs, I live in Cologne and have a degree in molecular biology.” He paused briefly. ‘And you?’ he asked Mike. ‘I don't want to steal your words now, please continue,’ Mike said. In truth, the good gentleman in front of us soon had three children but no diploma in anything. ‘As you wish,’ said Cheindrichs. “I've also been to all English-speaking countries, so Canada, Australia and England.” When he stopped again, I couldn't hold back anymore. Mike had developed a voice distorter at some point that I always had with me. Of course, it had his voice and a few others. Most of the time, I was lucky that he always played along immediately, and I hoped for that this time as well. ”Oh yes, you want to have been in all English-speaking countries? What about the USA then?” I saw Mike look at me angrily. Yes hello, I couldn't just leave out the country I was born in. ‘Certainly sir, I will go there this year.’ There was nothing to keep me on this dirty floor anymore, so I jumped up, but I hit my head on the table. “Mr. Linde, someone like that shouldn't become our teacher,” I said while holding my forehead. Mr. Cheindrichs looked at me in shock. ‘What are you doing here?’ Mike asked me. I had to play along now, just like he had just then. ”I lost my pen here yesterday during the last lesson and because I needed it, the caretaker unlocked the door for me.” “Okay, all right,” said Mr. Linden, and I wanted to go out. On the way, I pushed my recorder into Mike's hand. As I stood in the doorway, I felt blood running down my face and then dripping onto the floor. ‘Shit!’ Mike said, jumping up. He came to me. ‘I think it would be better if I took her to the secretary,’ he said. Mr. Linden nodded and the new guy still looked at me in disbelief. Mike took me to the elevator. As soon as the doors closed, Mike's worried expression disappeared. “You got us into something really great,” he said. “Do you seriously think I hit my head on purpose?” I asked. “You didn't, but now we'll be the topic of conversation and I'll get another one for it,“ he said and the elevator doors opened. We continued to the secretary's office.
“Your mother will kill us,” he said when he saw the wound. “At least you were married then.” I sighed. “Oh, don't start that again, you'll find your husband.” He said. ‘How can I when I'm only surrounded by brainless idiots?’ I sighed quietly. ‘Who here stayed back twice?’ Mike asked. ‘Bloody hell, that was in primary school because I had better things to do and spoke better English than German.’ I said. “Yeah, well, if you applied yourself more, your grades would be better,” he said. I looked at him grimly. ‘I was held back twice, believe me, since then I've had my ass at home,’ I said. ”You would have been best raised by your father, then you would never have gotten into this whole detective thing. He would have shown you the world and you would have been an A student.” Mike sighed and slapped a plaster on my forehead. ‘Dad showed me the world. He always goes away with Grandma and me.’ I defended my father. Mike grinned. ‘Favorite country?’ he asked. ‘If it were up to you, it would be Australia, but it's Japan.’ I said.
Then the bell for the first lesson rang. “Well, let's go then,” Mike sighed. As I was just about to get up from the couch, Mr. Linde came with Cheindrichs. “Would it be okay for you if he came to your class?” Mr. Linde asked. Mike looked at me, but it was clear to me that he had to agree to it.
“Tell me, is that girl from before also in one of my classes?” Cheindrichs asked Mike. ‘She's not a girl!’ Mike immediately defended me. ‘She's a quiet and shy student. If she should ever speak up in your class, you can speak of a miracle,’ Mike continued. “But there must be a reason, she can't have always been so shy,” said Cheindrichs. ‘Students also have a private life and that's none of your business,’ I said, walking past them. I was now ahead of them and somehow immediately noticed that Laura and Nick were not standing with the others. Mike nudged me lightly. “Laura was just there, wasn't she?” he asked me in a whisper. Just imagine that happening from 2.20 meters to 1.70 and then understand every word. “No, no, that was Laura, without a doubt,” I whispered back. “Well, maybe she'll still come,” he said and went to the door. As soon as he had unlocked it, noises were heard that made me freeze briefly. Luigi stormed in, Mike and I behind him.
Laura and Nick were having sex on the oh-so-dirty tables. Luigi stormed straight towards them and pushed Nick off Laura. “Ouch.” Mike blurted out. I went to Luigi to stop him from making even more of a mess. “You bastard, fuck your own girlfriend! And you, you stupid slut, I thought you loved me!” Luigi shouted at them both. I had him under control when I got his fist in the face. Shocked, he looked at me and then ran away. I let myself slide to the ground at the wall. Now blood was dripping from my right eye as well. “You're really lucky today,” Mike said while he straightened me up. “My hands are busy holding middle fingers up,” I said. Mike grinned briefly. “Sit down at the desk, the ambulance is coming,” Mike said. “Police too?” I asked on the way to the front. “Of course,” he said, then tried to bring Nick to consciousness. I sat down at the desk. Mike's laptop was turned on. Yes, I could spend the time usefully. I plugged my headphones into the thing and then typed in Avenged Sevenfold. Oh, how beautiful that was.
“You're having fun, that's good,“ Mike said, who was suddenly standing next to me again. ‘You can also write him an email, I won't tell.’ he said. But with my head, I couldn't concentrate. So I closed the part even when the emergency services came. They first turned to Laura and Nick, but then left one to me.
“But he gave you a good beating,” he said. “I had already been given the plaster by a table,” I said to him. ‘But the plaster is already gone,’ he sighed and took it off. At that moment, I realized that someone was looking at me. My gaze wandered to the right and froze. I had seen that guy in the police shirt in the cinema scene. This guy was real!
He looked even better, but he also had some white stripes on his right eye, which was also a bit blue. “That's what you'll look like too,” the paramedic said to me, and I jumped. “What?” I asked. “Mr. Grant had also been hit in the face while on duty recently,” said the paramedic. The policeman, who was obviously named Grant by last name, was suddenly gone. Well, maybe I was just dreaming.
“Can you walk?” the paramedic asked me. ‘I don't have a broken leg,’ I said and stood up. ‘Let's go then,’ the paramedic said and then he went downstairs with me. I was supposed to lie down in one of the ambulances. ‘Still feeling so fit?’ he asked me there. I gave him both thumbs up. “Yes sir,“ I said. ‘Good, then we don't have to hurry at first,’ he said.
“Yes, thank you very much too,” I thought to myself. A little later we went to the hospital. But I was allowed to leave shortly after the two wounds were sewn up, which meant back to school, otherwise I would see my grave.
“Hey, that was a shitty day.” I was scared to death and turned around immediately. It was Mike. ‘Don't scare me like that,’ I said. ‘Sorry, I was talking to your mom. You'll be staying with me for the next two weeks and she's going on a business trip with her husband,’ he said. ‘Cool,’ I sighed, nodding. “I know you'd rather go to your father, but you have to go to school,” he said. ‘Yes, all right, should I come with you right away or take the long way?’ I asked. ‘The latter, your mother is still with us,’ Mike said. ‘Well, see you in a minute,’ I sighed and left. I really didn't feel like that now. The bus and train ride soon took an hour and a half, partly because I had to wait so long for the bus. Meanwhile, it was no longer clear to me whether all of this was still real or taking place in my imagination.
On the way, Katly caught up with me. “What happened to you?” she asked. “The biggest bad luck of the day,” I sighed. Then I turned around, I had the feeling we were being followed, but of course there was no one there. “Our fantasy is coming true,” I whispered at the bus stop. Katly looked at me with huge eyes. “Let's think of some more crazy things, maybe they'll come true too.” I shook my head. “By the way, you're going to the cow town alone, I'm staying with Mike for two weeks,” I said five minutes before her bus arrived. Then a patrol car drove up to our stop and stopped at my height. The passenger side window went down. “Young lady, would you like us to accompany you home?” the officer asked me. To make sure he was talking to me, I pointed at myself and he nodded. ‘Not necessary. Thank you, sir,’ I said. ‘I can take care of myself,’ I added. He shrugged and then they left. It was him again, this Mr. Grant.
Thanks to Mike, I was allowed to stay in bed for another two days. But then Mike also went on parental leave, leaving me alone in this madhouse, and to make matters worse, my mother found out that Mike had allowed me to talk to my father more often. That caused a lot of trouble.
Well, and then I was without Mike for three months. Three horror months, because Laura had to vomit all the time and I was the one who always had to go to the bathroom with her. Because Nick didn't give a shit about her and Lotta didn't feel like it after a short time either. So I always stood in front of the toilet door for five minutes, bored to death, singing quiet songs to myself, until she finally came out and we could go to the secretary's office to send her home. But even then I had to wait another ten minutes for someone to finally come and pick her up.
Mike's replacement was just as annoying. Not to mention that he was even worse. He was watching me the whole time and also took me the whole time, even though I didn't answer. But I always knew the answers and when he was watching me, I stayed quiet and didn't do anything. I think it always annoyed him because he had hoped to embarrass me. The two scars on my face from our first meeting should have been enough to satisfy him, but apparently that wasn't enough for him. I thought he was strange when I first met him and that didn't change. But I didn't know what exactly was wrong with that bastard and I didn't find out during Mike's parental leave. So much for the topic of getting too involved in the detective thing, but oh well.
Lately, I often had the feeling that someone was watching me at the bus stop. There was always a private car there that always drove when my bus arrived, but I could never see who was sitting in the car.
At that time, there was a girl and a boy whom I thought were correct up to that point.
