Beautiful Thing screenplay (1996) - Simon - 12-10-2025
I. EXT. SCHOOL PLAYING FIELDS. DAY.
Standing on the muddy playing fields in the bright sunshine are
a group of about thirty nonplussed fifteen- and sixteen-yearolds in PE kit. They stand listening to their teacher miss chauhan talking to them. She is Asian, in her mid fortiess
and wearing a brightly coloured sari and trainers. Around her
neck hang spectacles on a chain and a whistle. She's the kids3 form tutor and is standing in for an absent PE teacher. A student teacher, BENNETT in his early thirties and quite
nerdy tries his best to assume an air of authority next to her in a
blue shell suit. miss chauhan blows her whistle.
miss chauhan: Right. Now. This is Mr Bennett, who's
going to be taking the boys for football. Mr Bennett foolishly enough wants to be a teacher. Now, whereas I might think he wants his head testing,
you, for the next hour, must think that the sun shines
out of his proverbial. As she speaks, a group of lads, RYAN MC bride, the class bully, and his mates jay son and lenny mumble
audibly under their breath to each other. They are not impressed by Bennett. This goes on as miss chauhan
speaks.
