On the other side of the gym, Jughead Jones poked his head out from behind the big box of prom decorations he was carrying, his normally sleepy expression suddenly alert.
“Cheeseburgers? Did somebody say there are cheeseburgers?” he asked, hungrily licking his lips, his needle nose twitching in search of the scent of his beloved burgers.
“Calm down, Jughead,” Kevin said. “It was just a metaphor.”
“Well, if you met her for cheeseburgers and didn’t include me, my feelings would be hurt!”
Veronica tossed her long dark hair over her shoulder and smiled at Jughead.
“Has anyone ever told you how funny you are, Juggy?” she asked.
“A few people have mentioned it, yeah,” Jughead said.
“Well, they were just being kind,” she said sweetly.
Jughead dropped the box he was carrying and stuck his tongue out at her. “How would you know? You think being kind just means not whipping the servants.”
“All right, let’s break it up,” Kevin said through his laughter. “Don’t make me use my power as chairperson of the prom decorating committee to make things tough for you guys.”
